The flexibility of the Engineering Physics program allows students to focus on their particular interests. The following are sample focus areas selected by students in the past:

- Hydrology
- Materials Science
- Nuclear Fission
- Optical Technology – Electricity and Magnetism
- Plasma Science and Engineering
- Radiological Health Engineering
- Remote Sensing
Students can also pursue academic minors in most schools and colleges within U-M. Many Engineering Physics students choose minors in the College of Engineering, the College of Literature, Science & the Arts or in the school of Art & Design.
