Sara Pozzi elected IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society President

The NERS professor brings extensive expertise in nuclear and plasma sciences, coupled with a steadfast dedication to advancing the field through innovation, collaborative efforts, and impactful professional development initiatives.

Sara Pozzi, professor of nuclear engineering and radiological sciences, has been elected as the President of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society (NPSS) for the 2025–2026 term. The IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. This prestigious leadership role follows her two years of service as Vice President of the society, which comprises approximately 3,300 members worldwide.

The NPSS is a globally recognized organization that drives innovation across diverse technical fields, including medical imaging, plasma and fusion physics, radiation instrumentation, and nuclear security. With her deep expertise and passion for advancing science, Pozzi is well-positioned to steer the society into an era of greater impact and collaboration.

In her inaugural message as President, Pozzi expressed her enthusiasm for enhancing NPSS activities and opportunities for its members. She emphasized her commitment to engaging students, postdoctoral researchers, and young professionals—offering them platforms to contribute, learn, and grow within the society. She also encouraged members to get involved in reviewing papers, organizing conferences, and supporting diversity and inclusion initiatives.

Pozzi invites all professionals in nuclear and plasma sciences to become active participants in NPSS initiatives. “IEEE Membership offers numerous benefits, including support for students, young professionals, and Women in Engineering through special programs that build professional networks and leadership opportunities,” she said.
