The longtime NERS faculty member and former U-M vice provost has been appointed the 19th president of the University of Toledo.
NERS professor emeritus James Holloway has been named the University of Toledo’s 19th president, effective July 15. Holloway currently serves as provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the University of New Mexico.
Before his time at UNM, Holloway had a long career here at the University of Michigan. He was a Professor of Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences, researching computational and mathematical modeling with applications in areas such as neutron and photon radiation transport theory, inverse problems, and uncertainty quantification.
At U-M, Holloway was an Arthur F. Thurnau Professor, the associate dean for undergraduate education at the College of Engineering, vice provost for global and engaged education, and vice provost for global engagement and interdisciplinary academic affairs.
“James has long exemplified the spirit of a Michigan Leader and Best,” said NERS Chair Todd Allen. “We congratulate him on this new chapter and look forward to building even stronger ties with our neighbors to the south.”
