Todd Allen, chair of the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences (NERS) at the University of Michigan, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the American Nuclear Society (ANS). He will serve a three-year term as a Board Member-at-Large beginning June 19, 2025.
The American Nuclear Society is the premier professional organization for nuclear science and technology, with members from academia, government, industry, and national laboratories. Its Board of Directors provides strategic oversight and leadership for the society, helping to shape the direction of the nuclear field at large.
“I appreciate my peers giving me a second term on the ANS Board,” said Todd. “This is an exciting opportunity at one of the most exciting times for nuclear energy in decades.”
Allen’s election recognizes his long-standing contributions to nuclear engineering research, policy, and education. In addition to leading NERS, he serves as the director of the Fastest Path to Zero Initiative and the Michigan Memorial Phoenix Project. His work bridges academic excellence with public engagement, focusing on sustainable energy transitions, advanced reactor technologies, and the integration of community perspectives into nuclear innovation.
His leadership on the Board will help advance the mission of ANS while strengthening the role of universities in the development of nuclear solutions for energy, security, and environmental challenges.
