NERS hosts Harper Academy 4 Future Nuclear Engineers

The four-week residential program prepared rising twelfth graders for nuclear engineering careers through comprehensive academic and practical experiences.

NERS recently partnered with the Harper Academy 4 Future Nuclear Engineers to provide a four-week residential program for rising high school seniors. Through hands-on labs, site visits, and seminars, students explored nuclear engineering careers and gained valuable skills and knowledge. This initiative, supported by Charles Harper Charities and U-M’s Engineering OnRamp, aims to inspire and equip future nuclear engineers from diverse backgrounds, contributing to clean energy solutions.

The program was led by NERS faculty and instructors including Chair Todd Allen, professor Kimberly Kearfott, assistant professor Brendan Kochunas, assistant professor Aditi Verma, adjunct assistant research scientist Katie Snyder, and graduate student Ryan Willat. The Fastest Path to Zero Initiative team at U-M also provided support from Gabrielle Hoelzle, Anne Verhey-Henke, and Andrea Morales Coto.
