Kristine Svinicki joins NERS as adjunct professor
The NERS alumna served as Chairman and Commissioner of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission for over a decade.
Kristine Svinicki has joined the U-M Department of Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences (NERS) as an adjunct professor. Earlier this year, Svinicki stepped down as Chairman of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) after a celebrated 13-year tenure.
“I am excited to bring a career’s worth of public policy experience in energy, environment, and national security, along with decades of knowledge of government research and development programs back to the College of Engineering and NERS,” Svinicki said. “The technology advances being pursued at the University are world-class and I look forward to contributing to the real-world problem solving taking place here.”
Svinicki earned a bachelor’s degree from NERS in 1988. NERS honored her with our department’s Merit Award in 2009, and the College of Engineering honored her with the Alumni Medal in 2017. Beyond serving as NRC chair, Svinicki’s extensive resume includes broad-based policy experience with the U.S. Department of Energy and with the United States Senate.
