Don R. Kania and Renee L. DuBois Fellowship Fund receives additional gift
The fellowship will support graduate students in the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences (NERS).
Don R. Kania (BSE NE ’77, BS ’77, MSE ’79, MS ’80, PhD ’81) and Renee L. DuBois (AB ’78, MSW ’80) have supplemented their endowment fund, the Don R. Kania and Renee L. DuBois Fellowship Fund, with a new gift. Dr. Kania and Ms. Dubois have further defined the purpose of this fund to align with their interest in the College’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Initiative. The fellowship will support graduate students in the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences (NERS) who meet at least one of the following criteria: first generation in their family to attend college or graduate school; have overcome substantial educational or economic obstacles; or have come from an educational, cultural or geographic background that is underrepresented in graduate study in their discipline at the U-M. Should there not be a NERS student who fits these criteria at the time of the award selection process, the fellowship will extend to all College graduate students who meet the criteria. This gift qualifies for the Bicentennial Opportunity Matching Initiative.
A dedicated alumnus, Dr. Kania’s engagement at the College includes serving on the NERS advisory board, advising current students, receiving the College of Engineering Alumni Society Merit Award in 2013, and presenting at the NERS Colloquium. Dr. Kania is the former president and CEO of FEI Company. The couple, who met at the U-M, resides in Ashland, Oregon.
