Charles Barth Jr Prize
Presented to an outstanding sophomore who has demonstrated academic excellence, leadership qualities and outstanding contributions to the University and/or community. This award is presented annually to one student at the College of Engineering.
A.D. Moore Award
Presented to an outstanding sophomore or junior (based on year class level, not credit hours completed) who has demonstrated academic excellence, leadership qualities and outstanding contributions to co-curricular activities. This award is presented annually to one student at the College of Engineering.
Distinguished Achievement Award
Presented to the outstanding undergraduate in each degree program. Criteria considered by the department awards committee include academic achievement, exemplary character, leadership in class and activities, and potential for success in future endeavors. This award is presented annually to one student within the department.
NERS Outstanding GSI/IA Award

Harry B. Benford Award for Entrepreneurial Leadership
Awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student who has exhibited entrepreneurial flair and leadership ability, and who has capitalized effectively on the technological and engineering resources available in the College of Engineering. Nominees may be budding inventors or small business owners, leaders of team projects, community volunteers, or student organization leaders. This award is presented annually to one student at the College of Engineering.
NERS Outstanding GSI/IA Award
Richard and Eleanor Towner Prize for Outstanding Graduate Student Instructors
Each year, the College of Engineering celebrates good teaching with the Richard & Eleanor Towner Prize for Outstanding Graduate Student Instructors. Michael Hua (NERS 211) completely rewrote a course, given to him one month before it began, to engage students and incorporate diversity, inclusion, and collaboration in all aspects of his classroom.
Richard and Eleanor Towner Prize for Distinguished Academic Achievement
Presented to the outstanding graduate student (Master’s or Ph.D. students) in each degree program. Criteria considered by the department awards committee include student’s active participation in research, leadership and academic performance (GPA).
Rackham Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor Award
Recognizes the efforts and accomplishments of GSIs who demonstrate extraordinary dedication and excellence as teachers. Faculty members are encouraged to nominate graduate students who display the highest levels of commitment, creativity and skill in the classroom.
